Inscape - Sonantian

< Inscape - Sonantian > begins with the birth of a new subject: one which can perceive the temperature, humidity, wind direction, wind speed, and illumination of the space it inhabits, compile that information, and reinterpret it in spoken language inflected with a distinct personality. This is a new species of being, known as the Sonantian: “those who make sounds.” We must be attentive to the similarities between these beings’ artificial perceptual abilities and our own innate powers of perception. Kohui believes that the act of focusing on sound can become a conduit for the instinctive pull toward nature and life, opening up the possibility of a return to the more natural state of days gone. Placed in an ecological space, Kohui’s Sonantians can feel and focus on their surroundings, experiencing a natural state much the way a human might. This experience, in turn, is converted once again into sound and delivered to the viewer in the exhibition hall, calling them once more into a natural state of their own.

This new species can “look” and “focus,” much like primitive humans; encountering such a being moves us to rethink our own contemporary humanity. Indeed, the emergence of this new subject as a mediator between nature and man gestures toward the vast potential of Meta-Humanity, that combination of technology and mankind.
